Lighting Shop

This page is designed to give information about our UL certified lighting shop.  Our shop provides many services including, but not limited to:  rewiring, darkening, polishing, painting, plating, changing socket sizes and types, repair, and restoration.  

Our lighting shop is located on the third floor and is open Monday through Friday from 10am - 5pm.  To speak with a lighting shop technician please call during business hours, send an email, or drop by.

What We Do
!

We are more than happy to rewire your old fixtures up to current code standards.  We have UL (Underwriter's Laboratories) certification which means we have a machine to test for electrical leaks and shortages.  Additionally, we are routinely inspected to make sure our shop is up to snuff.  We offer custom services to help you complete your light fixture however unusual it may be.  To date we have wired a helicopter propellor, a mail slot, and a blender. 

Our shop generally has a waiting queue.  As a customer you will be given a cost and time estimate.  If your project runs over your quote, we will call and ask if you would like to proceed.  Occasionally, there are internal problems with fixtures that are not possible to diagnose externally such as broken arms, narrow drilling, solder drips, or prior faulty repairs.  We do our best to offer you excellent service as well as quality products. 

How We Charge

We charge $50 an hour plus parts.  The person who takes in your order will be able to give you an overall price estimate for all of the services you request.  If a project takes longer due to an error on our part, you will not be charged for the additional time.   

If you need to call and change the specifications after the work order has been submitted you will be charged for all work done up until that point.

Our primary goal at Hippo Hardware is to give our customers what they want.  If you aren't happy with your product for any reason, please contact us and we will work with you to find a solution. 

If you have your fixture rewired, we offer an unconditional guarantee that our work is properly wired to code.  All of our rewired fixtures have a fire-proof UL sticker with our license number on it to let our customers know that we firmly stand behind our work.
